Brody Watt burst onto the scene as a top runner for the Bernards High School Boys Cross Country team during the 2022-2023 school year and made his mark. Now a sophomore at BHS, Watt won the Group 2 State Championship Cross Country race on November 4, 2023 at Holmdel Park with a time of 16:19; this was a notable improvement from his time of 17:30 at Holmdel Park last fall.

Watt stood out as a freshman runner, but is even stronger and better this year. “He is the first boy from BHS to win an individual state Cross Country Championship since Evan Geilich won in 2002 and 2003.  His time of 16:19 ranks number six of all time in Bernards history,” said Coach David Szostak. “Brody is a fierce competitor.”

In Track as a freshman he ran the 1600 with a best time of 4:20, one of the best times for a freshman in the country! He ran the 3200 with a personal best of 9:35. Watt also won the New Balance Nationals Freshman Mile earning him a national champion title as a freshman.

“Brody has demonstrated the merging of talent, effort, and determination throughout his time as a student athlete at Bernards High School.  We congratulate him and remain one of his biggest fans as he represents the Home of Scholars and Champions with class,” said Dr. Brian Brotschul, Superintendent of Schools.  The Somerset Hills School District is extremely proud of his devotion to the sport and his accomplishment of being one of the best sophomore runners in all of New Jersey!
