Congratulations to Bernards High School, named to the 2023 AP School Honor Roll as a Gold member! The AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP classes are delivering results and broadening access for students. Schools can earn the Honor Roll recognition annually, within four levels of distinction. In addition to having full-time grade 12 enrollments and being located in the US, for a school to earn this recognition it must meet each of the following criteria for students in the most recent graduating class:
College Culture: 40% or more of the graduating cohort took at least 1 AP Exam during high school.
College Credit: 25% or more of the graduating cohort scored a 3 or higher on at least 1 AP Exam during high school.
College Optimization: 2% or more of the graduating cohort took 5 or more AP Exams during high school. At least 1 of those exams was taken in 9th or 10th grade, so that students are spreading their AP experience across grades rather than feeling disproportionate pressure in any single year.
Bernards High School offers 22 AP classes, taught by 16 stellar educators, all experts in their subject areas. In keeping with the mission of the high school, students think critically, construct solid arguments, and see many sides of important issues, all of which are skills that help them prepare for college and beyond.

Bernards High School had 73% of seniors who took at least one AP exam during high school, 60% of seniors scoring a 3 or higher on at least one AP exam, and 14% of seniors who took 5 or more AP exams!

"This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students and staff, whose work in the classroom is noteworthy and impressive,” said BHS Principal, Dr. Scott Neigel. “Our teachers, counselors, support staff, and administrators are to be commended for their efforts to expand opportunities for students to take AP classes and support them on their journey toward academic excellence."

“Here in Somerset Hills we have a mission to support all students through enhanced opportunities and additionally, to challenge students through a robust curriculum," shared Somerset Hills Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Brian Brotschul. "Our curricular program has afforded our students the ability to perform at a high level as defined by the College Board; the entire high school is to be commended for pursuing excellence, and continuing to challenge themselves academically.  The District is proud to be named to the 2023 College Board AP Scholar Honor Roll.”
