From Thanksgiving until Winter Break, many staff members at Bernards High School participated in a fundraiser to raise money for the Somerset County Food Bank. Resurrecting an idea done pre-pandemic, Nick Hemans organized the Bernards Beard Contest. He shared, “It was an easy way to bring fun to a festive time of year… all for a great cause!” As the staff grew their beards, posters were hung and collection jars were placed around the high school. Students, staff, and families were able to vote; $1 a vote and voting was unlimited! In the spirit of giving, $825 was donated in all! Dr. Hogge won the contest, and as he promised, the students were able to decide the design for his beard to be shaved into. They chose mutton chops…a decision that will have to be investigated further in 2024!
