SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS
The Somerset Hills Board of Education appointed Dr. Brian Brotschul as Superintendent of the Somerset Hills School District at the April 19, 2023 Board Meeting, and he began in Somerset Hills on August 2, 2023.
Dr. Brotschul, who was named the 2022 NJ State Superintendent of the Year for Region III, began his career in education as a teacher of Language Arts. He has served in a variety of administrative roles including Assistant Principal, Director, and Principal at both the middle school and high school levels in North Brunswick, before becoming Superintendent in Delran in 2014.
Dr. Brotschul focuses his leadership on positively impacting staff support and student achievement. His work as a leader is deeply embedded in the belief that community-driven schools result in connected stakeholders. Dr. Brotschul’s work has increased academic achievement in the areas of language arts, math and stakeholder engagement across diverse, robust, and engaged communities.
Dr. Brotschul holds a Bachelor of Science degree from College of Charleston, SC, a Master of Arts degree from Kean University, and a Doctor of Education degree from Seton Hall University. He serves as adjunct faculty at Rutgers University and is an active member of several professional organizations.
Board President Sam Frenda shared, “The Somerset Hills Board of Education is thrilled to have Dr. Brotschul as our Superintendent. He brought with him a wealth of experience and exceptional expertise in areas in need of attention and growth as identified by our community stakeholders. We look forward to continuing to work with him to provide the best possible education to the students we serve.”
The Somerset Hills has proven itself to live up to its billing: passionate and dedicated staff members; driven students; a focused Board that supports the philosophy of ensuring all students receive superior instruction and support; a local government and leaders who seek to partner with the District in a host of ways to make these Somerset Hills outstanding.
“As we enter into the 2024-2025 school year we certainly look to bridge our great successes with our future experiences. In Somerset Hills, we believe that we are here to serve and to ensure that all students receive a top-quality education that exceeds their expectations to attain future success. I’ll underscore that “all” means “all.” It doesn’t mean “some” or “most.” It means that every single student needs to be placed in a position to be supported and to be successful. That is our overarching mission here in Somerset Hills,” said Dr. Brotschul.
