Boys Tennis

If you are interested in playing tennis for Bernards High for Spring 2018 and have not received an invitation to join the GOOGLE CLASSROOM page for boys tennis, please let me know via e-mail at pmcmillan@shsd.org.

Near the end of practice on the Ides of March (3/15), we decided that 1-3 p.m. on 3/17 at the BMS tennis courts would work best for our sixth practice, but no student should feel pressured to attend on Saturday (as was the case with Friday) if there's a scheduling conflict, etc.

Please be sure to dress in layers, bringing adequate water!
If a student-athlete has been cleared (medically) and attends six "official" (THINK: Coach is present!) practices, he is officially eligible to participate in interscholastic competition, but note that only 50% of the combined varsity and JV squad (eighteen in total) will be cleared by Monday or Tuesday of this school week (3/19-23), so our scrimmage may need to be postponed or canceled.

On Friday, March 16, challenge matches commenced; weather conditions were less than ideal but nonetheless representative of what athletes may face during the season. Coach McMillan will post a list of these scores on
Google Classroom.

Please note that the first day of preseason was supposed to be Friday, March 2, but 'twas actually Monday, March 12.

The address for the tennis courts is the same as for Bernardsville Middle School (BMS): 141 Seney Drive, Bernardsville, NJ 07924.

If a student-athlete has been cleared prior to 3/2 and attends the first six practices, he is officially eligible to participate in interscholastic competition.

FAQs about Boys Tennis

What supplies does a tennis player need for preseason?

Athletes are expected to bring a tennis racquet and a can of three new or gently used tennis balls. Athletic apparel should include shorts and sweats; tennis shoes are a must, but feel free to bring running shoes.

If an athlete does not drive his car to school, is he expected to walk from the high school to the middle school campus?

Athletes are encouraged to take one of the two shuttle buses that leave the high school within a few minutes of dismissal and travel to BMS. NOTE: This shuttle service is a first-come basis for athletes, so focus on getting to the middle school (since you can use the locker room at BMS).
